sugar cookies printable recipe

ingredients

(for the cookies)

1 1/2 cups (three sticks) butter, softened

2 cups white sugar

4 eggs

1 Tablespoon vanilla extract

5 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

(for the icing)

2 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar

5 teaspoons milk

5 teaspoons light corn syrup

2 teaspoons almond extract

assorted food coloring

directions:

1. in a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until they are smooth. mix in the eggs and vanilla.

2. in a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.

3. slowly add the dry ingredients to the large bowl.

4. after it becomes too thick for your mixer, take the dough out and put it on a lightly floured surface and knead it together to fully blend ingredients. form it into a ball and refrigerate for at least an hour.

5. while the dough is chilling, preheat oven to 400 degrees.

6. when it’s ready, cut the dough into quarters (only so it’s more manageable - if you have a big enough surface, you can do more at a time). lightly flour a rolling pin and roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness.

7. using cookie cutters, cut your dough into shapes and place them on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.

8. bake six minutes in the 400 degree oven.

9. let them cool completely before you begin icing.  while they are cooling, start making the icing…

10. in a medium bowl, whisk together the confectioners’ sugar and milk until it’s smooth.

11. whisk in the corn syrup and almond extract.

12. if you want to do multiple colors of icing, divide the batch and add food coloring.

13. dip the cookies in the icing and put on wax paper to dry. once the first layer is dry, you can drizzle another layer on.

14. let them dry fully before you pack them up or serve them.
